Look Ahead: Future scenarios

A work in progress

These scenarios for Look Ahead are an ongoing work in progress. They have been directly informed by community ideas from extensive consultation. There is a lot more work to be done to research technical issues, engage stakeholders again and develop formal proposals, but this is a great starting point
for those final stages of the process.

Action while we wait

Instead of waiting until the CSIRO flood modelling is released in mid-2025, we chose to get started by using the NSW Flood Inquiry recommendations as guidance for what is likely to be possible when more information becomes available.

Bringing the best forward

Most importantly, this approach builds on what we already have – a beautiful, dynamic CBD that is truly affordable and can absorb significant growth in economic activity without the need for expensive, drawn-out development. In this way, we actively position Lismore as we are now and tell a story about why this is where you come to test your idea, start your business and make your life.

  • A vision for Lismore's CBD

A focus on innovation. All of Lismore’s CBD becomes a Special Activation Precinct focused on innovation.

  • Natural Connection

A naturalised Browns Creek now forms the spine of a new greenway connecting the CBD and urban villages.

  • Southern Soul

A vibrant mix of of uses around the rail trail corridor that focuses on preserving South Lismore’s unique character.

  • A Nature Based North

As most of the houses in North Lismore have been relocated or demolished, a new opportunity arises to learn from Widjabul Wia-bul custodianship and a focus on bush regeneration and and other nature-based land uses on the fringe of the CBD.

  • Urban Villages

Overlooking the CBD, Wilsons River, and green parklands, the newly expanded urban villages are beautiful spaces to make a home.
