Southern
Soul
The South Lismore targeted buybacks are mostly concentrated in higher risk areas close to waterways.
There are buybacks spread throughout the neighbourhood. The result is an increase in green spaces and decrease in housing density. This approach also preserves South Lismore’s unique character by keeping a mix of residential, commercial, educational and industrial uses.
Greater connection
The rail trail corridor will draw people into the neighbourhood and activations, including creative arts, small-scale growing, and light manufacturing among other uses, will drive more traffic.
The old railway station will connect the rail trail with a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge into the CBD. New land uses on buyback properties may include larger private yards for adjacent households, floodplain revegetation (close to Hollingsworth Creek and Duck Pond), public art activation and more.
Given there are limited buybacks available in South Lismore, we hope to see significant future investment in improving housing safety and flood resilience across the neighbourhood.
