Dr. Joshua Lewis is the Schwartz Professor of River and Coastal Studies at Tulane University and the research director of the ByWater Institute. With a rich background that includes positions at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, he has been recognised as an early career fellow by the US National Academy of Sciences' Gulf Research Program.
His research focuses on climate adaptation and water management in riverine and coastal environments, emphasising infrastructure planning, ecological change, and environmental justice. Based in New Orleans, Joshua has dedicated over two decades to climate adaptation and disaster recovery efforts. Notably, he recently co-led a ten-year assessment of the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan, which aims to create sustainable solutions for coastal communities.
